To look back or not

To look back or not?

Once the net player in AVP sees the ball go out of reach they sidestep back to DVP, facing the middle and should glance at their partner to gain vital information about what position they are in and where they are likely to send the ball.  For example, if their partner had moved a long way back behind the baseline and is on their back foot then they would see the lob go up.  If they stay facing the front then they are not aware of where the ball is all the time which isn’t useful at this level.  The only time that they would stay facing the front would be if they are playing with someone that hits the ball very hard and is dominating from the back court.  This kind of play is used more at professional level or strong juniors.
